Not the beach, Tuesday morning

It was finally cold enough to start giving Duke flashbacks to his childhood in Maine, so he figured he'd give Rey a break and handwavily let her know he'd moved their morning yoga to somewhere with walls and a heater.

Which meant, of course, that he wasn't going to follow through on his threat to make her do yoga on a rickety stack of rocks. Yet. But considering he'd moved them to a room on the Cape Rouge, it did mean that she was going to be doing yoga on a surface that was gently bobbing up and down, back and forth, with the rise and fall of the water in the port.

Not that he noticed the movement anymore, not unless he was specifically paying attention to it. So he also had that balance board he'd been talking about ready. . . .

"No judgement if the answer's no," Duke said. "I sure as hell couldn't. But I also couldn't swap legs on tree pose as smoothly as you did, and I've done this before."

"One day I'll do something normal," she sighed.

She would not.

"Do I have to do it like you've shown me?"

"Considering that -- again -- I can't do it at all, I'm going to give you free rein to do this however you see fit."

Rey stepped into the board, only steadying it with her mind once she'd balanced herself. Then she slowly turned herself sideways so her feet were very close together on the width of the board, taking a moment to make sure this would work like it did in her head. She bent, almost like she was going to do a cartwheel to turn herself sideways on the board again, but instead of completing it she pulled her legs back up until she was just doing the handstand.

...This was a reason she'd flipped herself into things back when she was new and practicing in her apartment.

Duke watched carefully, noting when the board stabilized. He appreciated that she seemed to be trying to do things primarily with just her body, first.

"Nice. Now, uh. Do it one handed."

She would likely be able to tell by his tone that he was just teasing.

"You're not cute," Rey said lightly, coming down from the handstand on the actual floor, since that wasn't exactly comfortable.

Duke grinned. "Hey, you said you liked the balancing challenges."

[thatwaslucky]

"I did," she conceded. "People don't really do that one-handed, do they?"

Maybe if she'd been around when Yoda showed up.

"Sure they do," Duke said. He rubbed his hands together, then dropped into a handstand of his own. After a moment to make sure of his balance, he shifted his weight onto one hand and stretched the other out to the side, his opposite leg opening out as counterbalance.

He managed to hold it for a whole three seconds before dropping his feet back to the ground in a (mostly) controlled fall.

"Seen people do that on the ends of four-by-fours, so I'm guessing they can probably handle a balance board, too."

"Okay," Rey said. "That's impressive."

"Thanks." Duke shrugged, even as he preened slightly. (What? He liked showing off.) "People can do some weird shit. Even without the Force on their side."

"I'm still getting used to that, I guess," she admitted.

[betterthanaplan]

"Well. You're also still getting used to people, right?"

[thatwaslucky]

"Yeah. Though that feels a little weird to say now," she admitted.

[betterthanaplan]

"Just because you've been here awhile?" Duke asked. "Or is there something else that's making right now especially weird?"

He'd noticed she was a little pricklier today, though he'd passed that off as just being the cold outside and the general change of venue.

"Both, kind of," she said with a shrug. "I get hit with other people's feelings, that should probably mean I'm used to them now."

"Wait, you get hit with what?" Duke frowned. "Did I know you could do that?"

"Probably not. It's usually not a big deal," she told him. "If someone's having a strong emotion, like if they're really anxious or angry, I can kind of... tell."
