betterthanaplan | Not the beach, Tuesday morning

It was finally cold enough to start giving Duke flashbacks to his childhood in Maine, so he figured he'd give Rey a break and ~~handwavily~~ let her know he'd moved their morning yoga to somewhere with walls and a heater.

Which meant, of course, that he wasn't going to follow through on his threat to make her do yoga on a rickety stack of rocks. Yet. But considering he'd moved them to a room on the Cape Rouge, it did mean that she was going to be doing yoga on a surface that was gently bobbing up and down, back and forth, with the rise and fall of the water in the port.

Not that he noticed the movement anymore, not unless he was specifically paying attention to it. So he also had that balance board he'd been talking about ready. . . .

You had no idea how happy Rey was about this move, considering she still showed up bundled up with a too-big coat over it. She was a little sorry to miss the beach, though, just because she'd been in kind of a quiet mood after the weekend and that tended to be a good place for that sort of thing, but she'd trade it for being warm.

"Hello?" she said when she came on board, since she didn't know where they'd be.

Well, at least she could still hear the waves from the boat! It'd probably be hard to watch the water through the portholes, though.

"Down here!" Duke called back. It wouldn't be too hard for her to follow ~~the Force~~ his voice through to the room he had cleared out. Though she might find herself standing at the edge of one of the skylights if she didn't think to try the hatch to to the galley first.

She'd been down there enough to use the hatch, so she took that down to find the right room. "This is different."

"Oh, I don't know," Duke said. "We've got the water right outside, a little bit of fresh air through the skylight," only a little, though, since the whole point of this was that they'd be warm, and doing more than cracking the skylight defeated that purpose entirely, "and even porgs."

There was a nice little family of the suckers, in fact, nesting in the corner by the door. They looked very comfortable.

"All right, slightly less different," Rey agreed, shrugging off her coat to set not far from the porgs, knowing she might have to reclaim it later. And then pulling off the cloak under the coat.

Duke watched that with an amused smirk. "Bit cold, were you?"

"I'm from a desert," she said, and looked like she was gauging whether she needed to take off what was essentially a sweatshirt, too.

"Which can get pretty cold at night too," Duke noted. "Well. We'll get you warmed up nice and quick anyway."

"And I froze at night. You had to make sure to be indoors by then anyway." And hearing that, Rey took off the sweatshirt and dropped it with her other stuff, so she was just in a long-sleeved version of what she normally wore. "I'm good now."

Duke couldn't help a small laugh at yet another layer of sleeves. He led them into a sun salutation without further comment, though. He himself was dressed in his usual yoga outfit: an undershirt and loose pants, his feet bare against the rug he'd spread over the metal floor. It seemed no matter how many years he'd spent sailing tropical waters, he was still a Mainer at heart.

"So I was thinking we could do some balance work today, if that's cool with you."

"Am I balancing on rocks?" Rey asked.

"Are there any rocks in here?" Duke asked. He pointed out a little wooden platform with a sharply rounded base. "That thing seems less likely to muck up my floors."

She hadn't thought she'd have to stack boulders that time and then Anakin brought them into the warehouse...

"Okay. What am I doing on that?" she asked, curious.

"Same thing you do on the floor," Duke said. "We can start with mountain pose if you want, but I was thinking tree. And probably at least one handstand."

Since she was already familiar with using the Force to assist her in that pose.

"That's a lot of confidence in me," she said, but she was already getting up since she was game to try it.

She'd spent days trying things and having it work first try, why stop now.

Duke grinned. "That's the spirit." He picked up the board and held it out for her. "Let's see what you got. And just so you know, cheating is definitely allowed."

It was, in fact, the entire point of this exercise, since it proved that she could use the Force on herself. Which she knew, but maybe if she paid attention to how she was doing it in a balancing pose, she could adjust that for how to use it to actually lift herself up. . . .

"I guess it's one way to find out how much I've progressed," she said, taking the board and setting it in front of her.

She was of course going to see how much she could do without cheating.

Duke wouldn't expect anything less.

"Sure. We'll see if you can go up a belt level. In yoga."

Yoga had no belt levels.

Rey blinked. "I need a belt? Isn't that constricting?"

Duke laughed again. "You do not need a belt," he assured her. "It's a martial arts thing. They're into really brightly colored belts in the far east."

"Oh. Do they get bigger or something with each level?" Which also sounded inhibitive.

". . . I think that's more pro-wrestling's thing," Duke said. "No, the karate belts just change colors. White to black with a full rainbow in between."
