Duke was on the phone.
"Tomorrow? Are you kidding me?" He ran his hand over his hair. "I thought the opening wasn't until next week!"
"Well, you were wrong, then," Bill said. "It's tomorrow. Assuming the farms don't go nuts again."
"Big ask in Haven," Duke muttered.
"What?"
"Nothing. Just -- I can't sail up there that fast, man."
"So don't sail. There are other ways to travel, you know."
Like the portals. If it could get him to Ibiza and back with minimal jet lag. . . .
"Okay. Okay, I'll be there. I'm definitely not missing your restaurant opening."
There was someone shouting on the other end. Bill sounded amused and frustrated simultaneously. "Geoff says to bring something special."
Duke couldn't help a grin at that. "Mystery box?"
"Mystery box. Try not to charge us an arm and a leg for it this time."
"I'm wounded," Duke said. "Okay. Okay, I'll try to get up there tonight. Help you guys out with all your last minute fixes."
"Would we open if we weren't ready?"
"You don't want me to answer that." Duke shook his head. "I'll see you tonight, man."
He hung up and weighed his phone in his hand for a few minutes. Octavia was going to hate this. But the McShaws were some of his oldest friends. And their restaurant had been an actual haven for him more than once growing up.
He sent her a quick text, then pulled up the Portalocity website to make sure they actually had service to Haven.
[open! Duke is about to disappear for a week, not that he knows that. Get your pings in while you can!]
