The Cape Rouge, Port of Fandom, Christmas Eve

As a rule, he didn't tend to do much for the winter holidays -- unless you counted "go somewhere it's not winter" -- but some combination of Fandom's festivities and the cold weather had actually put him into something of a Christmas-y mood this year, so the Rouge's deck was -- well. Decked. There were string lights and garlands all over the open deck area, especially around the table holding the big thermos of hot, buttered rum. He'd set up a little fire pit on the metal cargo-bay doors, and the door to the galley and lounge below-decks was propped open with a now-dormant loaf of yesterday's fruitcake, in case people preferred to go in where it was warmer.

As discussed, Duke had only mentioned the party to a few people since planning it with Rey. It was Christmas, though, so if people decided to wander up and say hi, he wouldn't turn them away.

Rey had not actually met her yet, but at least she could make a guess at who she was. So she greeted her with a friendly smile and, "Hi. I'm Rey."

Lucy waved, a little shy, and offered Rey a chunk of fruitcake.

That was friendly, right? Offering food?

"Thank you," Rey said, smiling as she took it. "You're Larceny, right?"

"Yes!" she said, beaming. "Lucy, if we are special friends. But we're not, because I don't know your name."

"I'm Rey," she told her. "I'm friends with Duke."

"You do the yoga with him?" she asked.

Rey nodded. "That's me. He's my teacher."

"Does he make you noodles?"

Because if there was food to be had there, Larceny might have a reason to go.

Rey blinked, but didn't ask how they'd gotten to that question. "No, he's never made me noodles. Are noodles a good or a bad thing?"

"They are very good!" Lucy said, happy to be able to teach someone something. "Stay right there!"

Fast - very fast - Lucy had run down below decks to the ship's galley, and brought back a handful of noodles. "Here!" she said, offering them to Rey. "Eat them. They are very good. Not sweet like cake, but filling."

That was...yeah. That was just a bunch of noodles held in Lucy's fist for you.

"Oh. Thank you. They might be easier on a plate, though," Rey said. "Do you know where those are?"

"...Oh." Lucy said, pausing. She knew about them, technically. She just generally forgot unless someone reminded her. "And forks. Yes?"

She shoved the handful of noodles into her mouth (no sense in wasting it!) and then turned to go back downstairs.

Noodles. Plate. Fork. Yessss

"Do you need help?" Rey called after her.

She was trying! But her life before the boat had been very different.

"Okay," she said, nodding. "I'm not allowed to use the stove. Can you?"

"I can," Rey answered. And hopefully Duke was cool with that.

She wasn't Larceny, so he'd probably be fine with it. But she still giggled and played with the light switches every now and then, so letting her fiddle with the stove was still on the list of bad ideas.

"This way we can make more," she said.
