Duke and Octavia had entertained a guest last night. Which was the perfect excuse for Duke to go all out in the kitchen this morning, whipping up omelettes and waffles and bacon and sausage and plenty of fresh fruit. He always kept his galley well stocked when he was in port for just such an occasion, though he'd had less of a reason to really show off in the last few months that he used to.

Lucifer was a snob, though. So Duke really wanted to bring his A-game.

"So. We thinking mimosas? Bloody mary's? I make a mean irish coffee. . . ."

Duke bit back a protest that his space was orderly too at Octavia's nudge and turned his attention to his omelette instead.

"Seivarden's a bad influence on you. Next thing, you'll be calling us 'uncouth' for not wearing hats when we go out."

"Please," Lucifer said, rolling his eyes. "Seivarden would pass out in shock at the sight of anything uncouth, I'd just take it as a sign that both of you need to be indoors and undressed as soon as possible. Not necessarily with me in the room, the knowledge would be enough."

This was altogether too much syrup on Octavia's plate. Or maybe exactly the right amount? Whichever, it was mostly the result of a repeat nudge against Duke's foot before she drew hers back again.

She snorted. "So we're, what? Sexy savages, now?"

"Of course not," Duke said, leaning back with a smirk. "We've always been sexy savages."

"No, you're a sexy void of fashion," Lucifer informed her, "and he puts netting in a bar."

"No, he's a sexy beanpole," Octavia rasped. In perfect deadpan.

"You say that like sexy beanpoles can't put netting in bars," Duke said. "It's fine, Luce. You don't have to 'get' boho seaside chic. Last I looked, I had plenty of customers who did. Not all of them tourists, even. My shrimp was to die for."

Duke had, in fact, nearly died as an indirect result of cooking shrimp. . . .

"Your shrimp," Lucifer said, "Is the one part of your hospitality offerings I have no doubts about."

Octavia snorted. Only, it was a little more something that maybe approached a suppressed laugh?

Whatever, it was vague. And probably not anything she'd be inclined to share, going by the way she immediately ducked her head and just shover more waffles into her mouth.

Duke noticed anyway.

"I think Tavi just took that dirtily."

Lucifer snickered. "Did she now?" he said. "I mean, I remember it being a bit bigger than a shrimp, but she does know it better..."

Octavia glanced up at them through her lashed, first at Lucifer, then at Duke. "I'm not explaining myself to you two."

Please just take the little (still happening) upward twitching of the corners of her lips and let her be.

"Not expecting you to," Duke said easily. "Anyway. My cocktails are excellent as well."

"Perhaps you can teach her a few," Lucifer said, grinning.

Octavia gave Duke a Look. Because she could hear him.

"Think we focus more on drinking them, at home," she rasped.

She knew him so well.

"We could maybe do a little bit of, uh. Experimenting."

Lucifer reached for a waffle, because the word 'experimenting' had been spoken and now he was too amused and intrigued to disturb them.

"Experimenting," Octavia echoed.

Still faintly amused, if you knew how to listen for it.

Duke heard it alright.

"What, you don't want to experiment?"

You know, these waffles were pretty good, Lucifer reflected, even when they'd already cooled a bit.

"Depends on the experiment."

She was so clever.

Duke laughed. "And now we're making the Devil uncomfortable."

"Oh, no," Lucifer said, mirth in his voice, "I just don't want to interrupt whatever this is."

Octavia snorted. "Confusing innuendo isn't going to make him uncomfortable," she drawled. "If we started loudly talking about our love for each other, though..."

"Confusing? Oh come on. My innuendo game's better than that, right?"
