The Cape Rouge, Port of Fandom, Monday morning

Duke and Octavia had entertained a guest last night. Which was the perfect excuse for Duke to go all out in the kitchen this morning, whipping up omelettes and waffles and bacon and sausage and plenty of fresh fruit. He always kept his galley well stocked when he was in port for just such an occasion, though he'd had less of a reason to really show off in the last few months that he used to.

Lucifer was a snob, though. So Duke really wanted to bring his A-game.

"So. We thinking mimosas? Bloody mary's? I make a mean irish coffee. . . ."

"Can I just say 'all of the above'?" Lucifer said, visibly amused from his seat. "Because that seems to be the theme here."

Octavia was of the mind that they should all still have been in bed right now. But as it was, she was standing by the counter - barefoot and clad in a tank top and black pajama bottoms with white butterflies on them (hello, Prom 2020) - and stealing things that weren't technically yet being served.

"And I don't really care which one," she said, snagging a piece of pineapple.

"All of the above it is, then." He set a plate of fresh waffles onto the table, then went to go raid his fridge for the cocktail ingredients.

He was wearing shorts and an undershirt, himself, mostly just because cooking naked was actually a really bad plan. Octavia's butterfly pajama pants were making him wish he'd pulled out his shark onesie, though.

"Luce." He tapped his french press with a spoon. "Nicaraguan, Ethiopian, or Sumatran?"

Octavia pretty aggressively didn't care where her coffee came from.

You know, Octavia had the right idea, and now Lucifer was regretting sitting down at all. Ah well. Suppose there could only be one person scrounging at a time.

And then there were waffles, which he was grabbing eagerly, and the whole scrounging matter was forgotten.

As he packed waffles onto his plate, he considered the question with the attention it deserved. "Feels a bit early for Sumatran," he said. "Let's go with Nicaragua."

Octavia snorted.

"You might as well be speaking a secret language."

"And you wouldn't know anything about that," Duke said with a laugh. "Nicaraguan it is." He grabbed the bag of beans from his cabinet, along with the coffee grinder. "Tavi, you want to grab us some mugs?"

"They're all very distinct flavour profiles," Lucifer pointed out, digging into his waffles. "But don't worry, I won't go full Seivarden on you."

"Usually I'm not excluded from the secret languages," Octavia noted as she went to get the mugs, giving Duke a little bump with her hip as she did. "I don't need to know this one, though."

Coffee was coffee. (Except when it was a pumpkin spice latte, though she hadn't thought about those in years.)

"Then I won't worry about teaching you," Duke said, as he got the coffee started. "You can just coast by on our collective expertise."

"We won't let you drink substandard coffee," Lucifer agreed. "Even if you don't bloody well appreciate it properly."

"It's just bean water that makes you feel awake," Octavia drawled as she set the mugs down. "That's all, guys."

Trolling? Yeah, maybe, a little.

"Mmhm." Duke plated an omelette and passed it to her. "And if you think which beans you use don't matter, I'm making yours out of lima beans."

Lucifer snickered. "Well-roasted lima beans," he said, "Ground only once or twice so they're at their coarsest."

He shoved a piece of waffle into his mouth, chewed and swallowed. "Then as your next trick, you can replace all the brickwork on the street with Lego."

"Gibberish," Octavia replied, succinctly, taking her omelette to the table so that she could take a seat.

Definitely trying to force Lucifer to scoot over a little bit, even though she could also have gone to sit across from him.

Duke grabbed a couple plates in one hand, and the french press and mugs in the other and brought the whole thing over to the table. The galley was small enough that he could easily have done this almost as quickly in multiple trips, but he was showing off.

Of course, he still had to grab the booze.

"Yeah, yeah, gona. You like to fuss, but I know you secretly love learning the weird little details."

Lucifer, being a toddler in the shape of an ancient angel, gave Octavia a nudge and only moved exactly far enough that they still kind of had to fight over the space for it. "Oh, does she now?"

Lucifer, this was exactly how you ended up sitting all hip pressing into hip, because Octavia was stubborn.

Even as she acted like she wasn't even doing it. "I like to try and understand the culture I'm in, this isn't news."

"She just has to pretend to be angry about it." Duke brought the booze over and poured the coffees, then slid into the booth across from them. "You two look very cozy. Making me think I should have done this as breakfast in bed."

"Yes, well, I'm not the one who insisted on the whole 'being up, enjoying a full hotel breakfast spread' thing," Lucifer said. He was refusing to scoot further, damn it all. "Though I can't object to it too much."

He was reaching for that coffee, yes. "Have I mentioned recently that you are wasted on the bloody diner?"

Octavia had conquered enough space that she wasn't hanging half off the end of the bench, so she could probably live with this. Probably.

"The diner's a good place," she said, reaching for the waffles. "But yeah, this should've been a bed thing."

"No one's handed me a fancier restaurant," Duke said. And paused. "Well, not down here anyway."

And he'd turned the fancy one up in Haven into a bar.

"Next time. Though if you guys stay in bed, I don't get your sparkling company while I cook."

"Yes, well, that sounds more like a you problem," Lucifer said, smirking. "Besides, you don't get to use that excuse, you've probably got netting all over the fancy one you did get."

He reached for the bacon.

Octavia just snorted.

"Look, I was on a budget, okay? It's . . . tasteful netting. And maybe some tie-dye."

Lucifer would absolutely hate it.

"There's no such thing as tasteful netting, you nautical fetishist," Lucifer sighed. "I'd go over there and hire you an interior decorator if I didn't think someone would wind up trying to throw me in jail or something."
